At a recent workshop, during one of those cringe-worthy ‘let’s-all-get-to-know-one-another’ ice-breakers, we were each asked for one word that described us. Of course, being put on the spot like that meant that my mind went blank and the only thing I could think of was ‘shy’. Later, on the train home, I started to make a list of as many words as I could think of that applied to me, and when I couldn’t think of any more I turned to The Positive Trait Thesaurus: A Writer’s Guide to Positive Attributes for inspiration. In fact, I ended up making a double-sided bookmark of all the words that describe me – and finding the perfect image to portray me as well! – so that next time I am put on the spot I can bore everyone to tears with not one, but roughly 100 descriptors of moi that are far more pertinent than ‘shy’!
